Lets talk about the future of this Org...

I see Ell has already reassured you that I'm not planning to disband this group entirely. Thats good, thank you. =)
Jason and I have been talking lately about different ways we can build community here and one of the things that comes up is that not every Org wants or is able to do the sorts of things we are requiring from Orgs now. But that doesn't mean that there is no sense of community there, just that it serves people who aren't interested in doing monthly projects or earning ranks and so forth.
So rather than just disband these Orgs, what we are proposing is converting them into a new kind of group. We're calling them Discussion Groups.
The difference between an Organization and a Discussion Group is that Orgs have Leaders, and must maintain a website, and do some sort of activity at least once a month. DG's don't have to do any of this. Instead they just hang out and talk on their board. You won't be able to pick any of the DG's as a choice when you register an account, like you do for Orgs. Instead it will just be an open board with a moderator I appoint. DG's may want to someday become Orgs, or they may be satisfied to exist just as they are. Either is fine.
How does this affect the Aiel?
Well, I'm offering you guys the oppotunity to be one of the first DG's we make. Rather than completely start from scratch, I think this will be more successful if we take an Org thats been struggling a bit and give them the chance to thrive as a Discussion Group. Think of yourselves as the "pilot project" where we test this new format out. I'm also going to offer this to the Seanchan and open the Band of the Red Hand up again. You'll be in good company. After we get our new server, we'll allow people to propose new DGs, ones that aren't previously Orgs, so its not going to be like "Well, those are the Orgs that couldn't hack it"
You'll have fewer boards, just the public one and no private. Instead of having an Org Leader, you'll have a moderator. You'll have to make a minimum of thirty posts per month. But other than that, you can keep doing what your doing now.
Your thoughts?

Well, the Aiel have been such an integral part of DM, that I can't imagine Dragonmount without them in some way or form. I mean, I've been here for something like 4+ years now, and have been a part of the Aiel through it all. I understand the problems of thriving as one of the newly incarnated Orgs as well as anyone, having been Org leader here as things were changing. Getting the motivation to do things out of people is a tough job. I think that for now this sounds like something doable for the Aiel. We have to survive, and who knows, maybe in a few months if things are picking up again, we can return to the status of an Org, and then back to our rightful place as the best d**n Org at DM. That's just my two cents, for what it's worth.

SG needs a place to go to pee on spears...and if the Aiel turn into a discussion group then that would be impossible...

I'm for the discussion group as a base to start again.
My idea is that if a group of people can have the time to work out a concrete system for the Aiel, and not have to do it RIGHT NOW type thing then maybe we can develop an organisation in the future, but keep it alive in the now.

Unles ya'll overwhelmingly vote for "disband", the Aiel board will remain on the site and open to the public. I'll just move it to another section, that will be between the Org boards and the general boards. The Trollocs will still be able to come and play.

I'll miss our private board... Not that we use it much now anyway...
Hmm. What about our more or less ready ranks? Do to have to do something to those? Well, maybe it really doesn't matter..

Actually, looking at the way the poll is going, it seems like most of you want to stay as an Org. Thats actually my preference, so I'll give you all a few more daus to discuss, then I'll begin looking for a new Org Leader.
I'm really glad we were able to talk about this and that you guys are so open to change. I think that shows pontential for a very strong Org to emerge with the right leadership.
